How do I update my profile?

Profile and Account are separate pages, and the difference matters: Account holds your email, password and security; Profile holds who you are.

Editing your profile

Open Profile from your user settings. You can set:

  • First and last name
  • Username — your handle, and part of your public URL. Availability is checked as you type.
  • Headline and job title
  • About — a longer description
  • Affiliation and location
  • Website and ORCID iD
  • Avatar image URL
  • Expertise — the areas you work in
  • Interests — the areas you want to see
  • Social and scholar links

Your email address is shown here but changed on the Account page. See How do I change my email address?

What’s public

If you have a researcher profile, these fields make up your public researcher page — the one linked from studies you run. Affiliation, ORCID iD and expertise are the fields participants and collaborators use to work out who’s behind a study, so they’re worth filling in properly.

Anything you’d rather not publish, leave blank.

Becoming a researcher

Creating surveys and studies needs a researcher profile. If you don’t have one yet, the app prompts you when you first try to create something, and setting one up means choosing a username and filling in the fields above.
